One of our local catholic churches held a family fun day at the weekend as recognition of the Pope's visit. There were loads of activities for the children - and for the adults there were a few stalls, one groaning underneath the weight of a vast selection of Fairtrade goods, another displaying information on ethical and green issues that we all as Christians must engage with if we are true to our faith.After a "bring and share" lunch, the afternoon continued with workshops and concluded with a mass. The event was deemed a success although the numbers turning up were disappointing; perhaps the publicity was not as good as it could have been. But each leaflet picked up and taken away could be the start of one more "Ripple of Hope," each Fairtrade purchase helped to relieve some poverty in a family somewhere. So the effort was not in vain.
