Don't worry, there's plenty of oil

"We can fall for the oil industry hype and keep ourselves chained to a resource that's depleting and comes with ever increasing economic and environmental costs, or we can recognize that the days of cheap and abundant oil (not to mention coal and natural gas) are over."
That's the clear message from the Energy Bulletin article August 28, 2012 from the post carbon institute.
And this isn't just something affecting Americans. It affects us all, globally.

Peak Oil and Preparing for the riots of 2030

Both the USA and the UK have never had to face the issue of running out of natural resources– 
but we will.


“Oil is one commodity and water is the other one I see looming on the horizon, especially in the West.”

Not my words of warning – I quote from the blog of Eric Holdeman, “Emergency management in the blogosphere,” writing on the German Army report on peak oil, Review of Bundeswehr Report on peak oil: Section 2.2. Tipping Point (Nov. 2010) that has just become available in English translation.
The approved version of the German report was released last November, although it had been previously leaked, and it was only available in German to start with. Now it is available in English. Alarmingly it has received almost no media attention, even in Germany. Because everyone, emergency planners, politicians, educators, journalists, needs to recognize and act upon what it is saying.

Interestingly, Holdeman writes, his blog post on Preparing for the riots of 2030  struck the greatest nerve with people. “Some commented that it won’t take that long to get to the point before we have major riots in our urban areas.” Holdeman’s premise in that blog posting was that rioting would develop out of the “disparity of income and the lack of upward mobility coming home to roost.” He now adds “a shortage of resources to that list that can accelerate and acerbate the feeling of hopelessness.”
Oh yes! The recent riots on the streets of English cities strike a chord here! Wait ‘til the effects of oil shortage start to bite! 2030 or sooner?

8 reasons why the earth needs healing

Someone on another blog site wrote to me thus:

"I'm not a doomsdayer and believe when the earth was created, it had all we would need to inhabit it for as long as needed. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be responsible in caring for it. God's creations are so beautiful, and we all have the errand to help those within our sphere of influence. "

The problem is that we have not been responsible. Here are 8 reasons to start with as to why action is urgent and vital:

Combined wealth of world’s billionaires equals the income of half the world’s population – 3 billion poor people, living on less than $2.5 per day.

The American places twice the environmental load of the Swede on the planet, 280 times that of the Haitian.

Human consumption is nearing, and in some cases has already surpassed, planetary maxima. Oil, fish, and lumbar production have already peaked. 40% of world coral reefs have vanished.

The amount of land that can sustainably respond to human requirements, our “earth share”, of every man woman and child on the planet is 4.2 acres. Average world usage is now 8.9 acres per person.

World population is now 7 billion against 5 billion 22 years ago.

Water and Land resources are continually being diminished. Both will become big problems – along with food shortages.

A thousand million go hungry and 6 million children die annually of starvation whilst 155 million are overweight.

The economy is in crisis.

And there is no problem? There most certainly is!

We really cannot close our eyes to this – we have to consider not only today but also what we leave to children and grandchildren.

The Truth about the Oil - the real leak size

I may have said this before but all who are interested in the Truth about the current big Oil story should follow the planet thoughts of David Alexander and get on his email list for regular updates.
