I took this photo in London today from the South bank of the River Thames looking over towards that wonderful new building affectionately dubbed "The Gherkin." To the right of it, totally dwarfed, is the Monument!! You can just see the gold dome, depicting a flaming urn. That is the Monument to the Great Fire of London, a 202 ft (61.57 metre) tall stone Roman Doric column, erected near to the northern end of London Bridge, from where the Great Fire of London started in 1666.Designed by Christopher Wren, completed in 1677, I wonder if it will outlive the life of the Gherkin. I somehow think so!
